GROLEN'S WORLDGROUP MANAGER

EVERYBAUDYS ONLINE TECH SUPPORT AREA

This area contains some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about using EveryBaudys Online. If you do not find the information you are seeking here, please feel free to contact our Technical Support staff by emailing EOLSUPPORT or calling our Support Staff in Manchester at 603-645-0101.

My connection to the Internet becomes unstable and I get disconnected.

There could be several causes for this problem…..Call Waiting, someone picking up an extension phone, improper modem initialization string, Windows ports settings not configured properly, not using "hardware flow control", noisy phone line, etc.

Call Waiting: If you have Call Waiting on the phone line which you are using to connect to EveryBaudys Online, you must deactivate this feature first. Otherwise, your connection to EOL will be interrupted anytime someone dials your phone number. To deactivate your Call Waiting during your connection to EOL, you need to add a *70, to the front of our phone number. This will turn off Call Waiting for this one call only and reactivate it once you've disconnected from us. For Example: If calling our Manchester number, the new string should read: *70,668-2983

Someone Picks Up An Extension Phone: This will disconnect you everytime. Try to let others in the house know that you are using the modem line.

Modem Problems: Sometimes your modem can just "call it quits!" If you suspect you are having modem problems, call our support department and schedule a free appointment to have your modem checked. If it's bad, we can replace it in no time - and save you money at the same time.

Windows Port Settings and Hardware Flow Control: If you're one of the few people still using Windows 3.1, make certain that your Window's port settings are configured properly. (Windows 95/98 takes care of this automatically.) You'll find the port settings in your Windows Control Panel. Check the port settings for the com port your modem is set to. Make certain your port selection modem speed is equal to or higher than your modem's speed. Also in this area you can find an option for Hardware Flow Control or XON/XOFF. Make certain you are using Hardware Flow Control.

Noisy Phone Line: This occurs more often than you might think. Notify the phone company that you would like your phone line checked for line noise. There is no charge from Verizon for this line check.

When I log on to EveryBaudys Online with WorldGroup Manager, the main screen never comes up and the connection active window stays open in the upper right hand corner.

This could be caused by several things, however the most common cause of this problem is a sound conflict... make sure that you haven't set your computer to play a wave file whenever you open a program. Open your control panel, go into sounds and make sure the "open a program" doesn't have a sound associated with it. If it does, turn this option off…it is conflicting with the wave file our system sometimes plays at logon.

Another possible cause is your WorldGroup Cache settings may need to be increased. If this setting is set too low, it can cause lock ups, and unstable connections. To increase your WorldGroup Cache, load WorldGroup Manager and get yourself to the point just before your computer would connect to us. From this screen select OPTIONS and STORAGE SETTINGS. If you need to increase your Primary and/or Secondary Cache settings, just add a "0" to the end of the Maximum Bytes settings.

What are Global Commands?

Global Commands are a series of user options such as turning user paging on/off, changing password, checking account information etc... You can access Global Commands by either selecting "Extras" from the main page of EveryBaudys Online, or by clicking on the Global Command icon (red button with the Earth on it) at the lower left hand corner of all secondary EOL menu screens. Selecting this button will bring up a toolbar containing several Global Command functions.

How do I view how much time I have used/left?

Click on the Global Commands button (found in the lower left corner of most EOL screens.) This will bring up the Global Commands Toolbar. Move your mouse over the various toolbar buttons and locate the button that displays "view account information" (the letter I with a magnifying glass). Click on this button and your account information will be displayed, including how much time you have left on the system before reaching debt.

How do I download a file sent to me via E-mail?

These download instructions assume you are using WorldGroup Manager to access your email. While reading the email message that has the file attached, click on the download button located to the right of the tool bar... you'll then be prompted to either DOWNLOAD NOW or DOWNLOAD LATER. You'll also be given the option of selecting the download directory of the attached file.

How do I configure my Web Browser to send and receive internet email?

You'll need to configure your browser's SMTP and POP3 send/receive fields. Both the SMTP and POP3 send and receive fields should contain the IP address: 216.64.96.6    Your POP ID is the same as your EveryBaudys Online User ID. Netscape users can find these configuration options by selecting OPTIONS and then MAIL AND NEWS PREFERENCES. Select the SERVERS tab at the top of the screen. The SERVERS page will contain the configuration options for Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server and Incoming Mail (POP3) Server. Both of these fields should be set to 216.64.96.6     POP3 User Name is your EveryBaudys Online ID. Next you'll need to select the IDENTITY tab and configure your EMAIL and REPLY TO ADDRESS. Both of these adresses should be the same and should be your user id followed by @grolen.com. For Example: A person with the user ID Jimbo would have the internet address of jimbo@grolen.com

My/another web page has been updated since I last visited, but I'm still getting the old page

Try clearing your web browser's cache. If you're useing Internet Explorer, you'll find the cache option under TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, the GENERAL tab, then select SETTINGS in the TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES area.

If you're using Netscape, you'll find the cache option under OPTIONS then NETWORK PREFERENCES. Select the CACHE tab at the top of the screen and then clear both the memory cache and the disk cache.

How can I conserve my online time by reading and writing email messages offline with WorldGroup?

After loading WorldGroup and before connecting to EveryBaudys Online, select FILES and then PROPERTIES. This will bring up a screen with several options including the telnet address your system connects to, your user ID and password, etc. One of the first options at the top off the screen will be to "Run offline until "Connect" button is pressed." Select this option, then OK. Now when you click on the EveryBaudys Online icon, it will "act" as if it is connected to our service. You'll be able to read and write email offline. You'll stay offline until you "ask" the service to do something that requires you to be online. At that point your computer will connect to our service. When writing email offline, place any outgoing email in your outbox instead of sending it. Once you are finished with all your mail, select SEND ALL from your outbox and WorldGroup will connect and upload your outgoing mail.

What are these "credits" in my account used for?

Credits are the form of time measurement that EveryBaudys Online uses. 1 credit equals 1 second of online time. There are 3600 seconds in an hour. Therefore, 3600 credits is equal to one hour of online time. If your membership allowed you 35 hours a month, you would be issued 126000 credits (35 hrs X 3600 credits = 126000) on the first of each month. Members in the Unlimited class have unlimited credit useage and are issued 500,000 credits at the beginning of each month soley for the purpose of tracking online time.
